About the Event
Administrative Professionals Day and Week has a long and respected global history. It was first established in 1952 in the United States as National Secretaries Week by the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) in Kansas City. The initiative was created to recognise the vital contributions of secretaries in the workplace and to attract talent into administrative and secretarial careers.
As job roles and responsibilities evolved over time, IAAP formally announced a name change in 2000, transitioning from Professional Secretaries Week and Day to Administrative Professionals Week and Administrative Professionals Day. This change reflected the expanding scope, influence, and professionalism of today’s administrative workforce.
Today, Administrative Professionals Week is one of the largest workplace observances worldwide. It is celebrated across countries and industries, bringing together millions of professionals through community events, corporate recognition activities, and professional development programmes that honour the critical role of administrative and business support professionals.
